Cyrano Picture Block Editor

In Cyrano's picture block interface, users communicate by touching images on the screen of their pocket pc. Cyrano is effectively a “blank slate” you can use to develop the communication system that works for you. You use the Picture Block Editor to easily customize your Cyrano with as many pages as you need to communicate effectively. One of the nice features is that you can see and try your page design as you build your pages. Each page can contain from one to thirty-five blocks of information. Each block can contain a picture, a text message, an audio clip, a jump to another page, and/or run any program on the pocket pc. An easy to use interface allows you to take your pictures, record your clips, and type in your messages without any other equipment.

With Cyrano, there are no need for symbols. Actual pictures eliminate the need for the user to learn the meaning of the symbol, making acquisition easier. Imagine not using a logo to represent McDonald’s, but actually having a picture of the user’s favorite McDonald’s restaurant. Instead of a symbol representing the word “family”, you can have a picture of the user ’s family. Take your pictures using Cyrano's embedded camera. You can use the camera to create video movies. Then use the Run File feature to play the movie when a block is clicked.

You can also attach a text message to a block. The text will be displayed at the top of the page when the block is clicked.

Use the built in Audio Recorder to record a voice clip that will play any time the block is clicked. If no audio clip is recorded and there is text attached to the block, the dynamic speech voice personality will read the text message and speak for you.

Each block can contain a jump to another page of blocks. For instance, your startup page might have a block for activities, for food and for school. Touch the food button and another page might appear that has buttons for the groceries and for restaurants. Press the restaurant button and the page with the user’s favorite restaurants will appear.

One of the nice features of Cyrano is the ability to incorporate other executable files into your communication system. This allows the user to open a saved file or even a separate program simply by clicking a block. For example, you can play a video movie when the block is clicked. This is great for not only entertainment, but also for teaching, reinforcement, and environmental control.

All of your data is stored on inexpensive SD memory cards. With the included memory card of 1GB, you can store well over 1000 blocks of information in as many pages as you desire. If you are a therapist, you can use your Cyrano with multiple clients by simply setting up a separate card for each client. If you are a user in different environments simply switch cards. Simply insert a different card into Cyrano and it automatically resets using the new pages and blocks - no reprogramming necessary.
